Things We Love

Hiking at all levels

The Finger Lakes Trail

You’re on it! The stretch of Comfort Road in front of the cabin is part of the 1,000 mile Finger Lakes Trail (FLT) system that stretches from PA-NY border to Niagara Falls. Walk South 1,000 ft and you’ll find a trail head on the left that takes you to the lovely Chestnut Lean-to, an easy 1.5 mile walk. There are additional loop trails along the way. If you are looking for adventure and exercise, the Abbott Loop Trail is a short drive to Michigan Hollow Road, near by. We are members of the FLT and have maps in the cabin.

Live Music and Food

Check out Danby Food and Drink just 5 minutes from the cabin. They have live music scheduled through early fall and it is a great place to grab a beer, coffee, specialty sandwiches, or locally sourced essentials like dairy, meat, snacks, and fresh veggies.

South Hill Cider is a 10 minute drive and occasionally hosts live music. If there’s no band, stop by for the most amazing hard cider around, snacks, and beautiful sunsets. Side note: Their cider had top billing this summer on NYC’s famous Grammercy Tavern’s wine list!

Downtown Ithaca (more on that later) has dozens of music venues for any tastes. Check out https://ithacamusic.net/ for events.

Finally don’t forget the annual festivals in the Finger Lakes Region, like The Grass Roots Festival in Trumansburg and the Finger Lakes Country Music Festival in Palmyra.

Downtown Ithaca

Visit the Commons in Ithaca, a pedestrian-only street that thrives in all seasons. Teaming with students and tourists alike, there is always something to see.

Antiquing

While there are too many antique stores to list, our favorites are in Owego, a 30 minute drive South of the Cabin on highway 96 (Danby Road).

Special Museums

Be sure to visit the Cornell College Art Museum. In addition to wonderful artwork, a roof deck with LED lights is especially entertaining.

The Museum of the Earth in Northwest Ithaca is a grand illustration of the region’s geology and pre-history. Check it out.
