Idiot Brothers are Anything But!

Emily and I don’t normally get worked up about hard cider, but this place has it down to an art! Being an idiot brother myself, I was intrigued by the name and took a chance to see what Idiot Brothers Cider was all about. These guys make magic from feral fruits and we were hooked at first sip! The Rose semi-sweet took Emily by surprise and unseated a rival rose. I loved the Passionfruit hard cider, a recipe the ‘boys’ brought back from Cali.

So, for a truly authentic, "no-frills-just-thrills" experience, you have to swing by Idiot Brothers Cider just outside of Trumansburg. Nestled in a beautifully restored 1840s timber barn, this spot is run by brothers Rob and Richie, who forage wild apples from abandoned orchards to create small-batch, high-end sips.

  • The Vibe: Exceptionally chill and unpretentious. Expect to sit on a couch in the barn or spread out on the lawn while listening to chickens clucking in the background.

  • Weekend Hours: Saturday and Sunday, 12:00 PM – 5:00 PM. Note: They typically close for the winter (starting late November) and reopen in the spring.

  • Phone: (607) 351-4756 or (607) 793-0409.

  • Food: While they don't have a full kitchen, they often host pop-up food vendors during events.

  • Nearby POI: They are a stone's throw (less than a mile) from Black Diamond Farm & Cider, making for an easy back-to-back tasting.

Don't Miss: The End of Season Pressing Party

The absolute highlight of their calendar is the annual Pressing Party, usually held on a Saturday in late October (in 2025, it was October 25th). Originally started as a community "all hands on deck" event to press the first vintage, it has evolved into a massive celebration to close out the season.

  • What to Expect: Live music, plenty of fresh and hard cider, local food, and a symbolic community pressing session. Heirloom chics cautiously mingling by their coop and fire pits make sipping outside a pure joy.

  • Cost: Admission is typically free.
